The Dan Raymond House
This handsome house was built in the Federal style of architecture by local businessman, Dan Raymond, just prior to the American Revolution. The original section is made of local brick with the wooden addition at the rear, in the Greek Revival style, added about 1835. This center hall home retains most of its original features including a fine 18th century staircase, wide-board pine floors, entryway with transom light, six over four windows and a half circle fan in the gable end. Two corner fireplaces in the north and south parlors are restorations. The brick section, originally one story, was altered at a later, unknown date, to two stories.
The property also boasts a two door smokehouse from the General Fellows house, a carriage barn, hatter’s manufactory (See next door), brick greenhouse and a law office that was moved from The Sheffield Plain, all of 19th century origin.
